WHAT TO EXPECT
BEFORE
Look throughout the website, and you will see that gracefuleye photography specializes in the minimalist style of portrait photography. Your background and foreground will be all white. Babies and toddlers, with their oh-so-cute cheeks, are the perfect subjects to highlight this type of photography.
Keep an eye out in your inbox for emails from ‘gracefuleye photography’. You will receive an email reminder 1 day before your session. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at hello@gracefuleyephotos.com.
Feel free to bring in their favorite teddy bear, or their blankie, anything that will soothe them.
Is practicing expressions helpful? We aim for genuine reactions and expressions, and find that sometimes too much prep can hinder the child’s willingness to participate. The main thing is to let them know that this will be a fun experience. We find that great results come from kids feeling that there is no pressure to perform.
DURING
During our time together, you can expect high energy, lots of funny noises, and probably some squeals as I snap photos. I will pose you and offer suggestions, so you won’t have to worry about any of that. I take LOTS of photos to make sure I get the great shots we need, so you’ll hear my shutter snapping pretty rapidly. I also love to capture candid moments in between!
Make sure that your child’s face is clean before you arrive (many children do not like having their faces wiped, it is best to do it before hand allowing the portrait process to be a positive experience.) Moisturize their face, arms, and hands a day before the session, and come free of crumbs and boogies!
Remove chipped nail polish and temporary tattoos.
AFTER
About 3 weeks after your session, you will receive a private gallery of your pictures, where you can download ONE digital photo file at no additional charge. You have the option to purchase additional digital files once you receive your gallery.
Here are some tips to help you with your child’s photo session:
DRESSY OVER CASUAL
I always suggest dressing the little ones in something more dressy instead of their casual play wear. Dressy clothes, even on kids, will automatically make your photos standout! Some great places to look for unique, beautiful outfits are Moderne Child or Etsy! Remember, there is no such thing as “too dressed up” for your portrait session, so have some fun!
THINK LIKE ADULTS
I know they may be little, but many of the tips still apply to the kids. (They’re basically little adults anyway, right?) For the girls, dresses and accessories are perfect! Maybe add a fun flower crown or bow for an extra pop of beautiful. For the boys, layers are adorable! And don’t forget about the cute details like suspenders or a fun bowtie!
TO PREPARE the caregiver WHO MIGHT END UP BEING in the photoS:
While this session is meant for the little ones, and not a full family session, sometimes all we really need is for you to hold the little one. This may be enough to stop the tears, but this means the caregiver will be in the pictures.
Here are some tips:
GO FOR THE DRESS
I always encourage women to consider going for a more dressy look over a casual one. Dresses and skirts are great for portrait sessions because they’re flattering for any body type! Long and flowy dresses and skirts always photograph well, and help add some dimension and flow to your photos. Chiffon or soft cotton are excellent fabrics for this look. Don’t forget, kitten heels add a nice flattering touch.
gracefuleye photography has a minimalist style, so your background and foreground will be all white. A cream-colored dress, or anything monochromatic will go with this style.
STATEMENT ACCESSORIES
Once you have the dress picked, don’t forget about accessorizing! Adding a statement necklace or earrings will help complete your look, and add a little flair and pop to your photos.
TREAT YOURSELF
This is a great time to treat yourself and go pro! Pamper yourself by getting your nails, hair, and makeup done professionally or even just for a salon’s base package. It makes you feel beautiful, and it looks stunning on camera!
AVOID “MATCHY-MATCHY”
Although it may be tempting to dress everyone up in the same plaid print or in that white t-shirt and jeans, photos really look stunning when there is nice coordination without overly matching. I typically suggest dressing no more than two people up in the same print or color. This helps to balance out your photos so the attention is drawn to the subjects, not the outfits.
SOME MORE FYI:
- Keep an eye out for emails from ‘gracefuleye photography’ for your private gallery, about 3 weeks after your session.
- Your photoshoot entitles you to ONE photo download. Because of the digital nature of a download, there are NO EXCHANGES. So be sure to view the whole gallery first before deciding on the image you want to download. Otherwise, you will have to purchase additional files.
- Additional purchase options include these SHOW SPECIALS:
- Download full gallery for $250.
- Download 4 additional files (5 total) for $150.
- Download additional individual files for $50.
- NO REFUNDS for orders as the downloads happen automatically.
- Your gallery expires after 3 weeks of inactivity. Email reminders will also be sent before your pictures are deleted.
